Providers

Providers connect NextOS to model APIs. A provider can be configured with an API key, OAuth flow, local endpoint, or a curated path such as NextOS Zen.

Choose a provider

Pick based on the work:

• Strong reasoning for architecture, bug hunts, and risky refactors.
• Fast models for summaries, small edits, and command generation.
• Local or private endpoints for sensitive projects.

Connect

Use desktop provider settings or the TUI provider command. NextOS stores the needed credentials in its local configuration path and exposes readiness diagnostics in the app.

Provider diagnostics

Startup failures often come from provider state. Check whether the provider is connected, the default model is available, the route plan selected the expected provider, and the API key still has access.

Multiple providers

Keep more than one provider configured if your team uses different models for different tasks. Commands and agents can override the default model when needed.
