Tools

Understand the built-in tools agents can request.

Tools are how agents act. They let a model read files, edit files, search, run shell commands, delegate tasks, interact with MCP servers, and generate artifacts. The desktop trace shows tool activity, touched files, failures, and permission requests. Keep tool use narrow: enable only the MCP servers you need, deny surprising actions, and ask for a touched-file summary before review. Built-in tool families include files, search, shell, task delegation, MCP, and document workflows such as .docx generation.
